A series of photographs by Olivia Hemingway & Jessie Simmons.

‘Have you got a Rubber?’ was originally a group show, curated by Olivia Hemingway and exhibited at the Spitz Gallery in 2005. The show comprised illustrations on erasers by Grant Rogers, ‘Drop It’ a short film by Anthony Minghella, ‘Putty Rubber Sculpture’ by Mike Russell & a series of large macro photographs by Olivia Hemingway & Jessie Simmons.

‘Have you got a Rubber?’ was born out of the intention to raise awareness about increasing debt problems in the developing world, using artist’s responses to the subject alongside related information. The show, in conjunction with The Jubilee Debt Campaign, was both visually striking & thought provoking. The playfully tenuous links were recognised & celebrated, with the accessible, simplistic idea of ‘rubbing out debt’ and with different takes on the theme. The problem of developing countries being asked to pay unfair and unpayable debts continues. Find out more at: www.jubileedebtcampaign.org.uk

Since the Spitz Gallery show, the photographic series by Olivia Hemingway and Jessie Simmons has continued to be exhibited. ‘Have you got a Rubber?’ was at Searcy’s at The Barbican Arts Centre, featuring in the Barbican’s 25 years commemorative brochure and at Sh! Women's Erotic Emporium, playing on the explicit pun in the title. To see more of Jessie Simmons’ still life and product photography see www.fullstopphotography.co.uk

An image from the series ‘Rainbow’ has been used on the cover of jazz musician Will Vinson’s album ‘Promises.’ Will Vincent is the acclaimed saxophonist in Rufus Wainwright’s band and this is his debut solo album.
